Cabela’s BlackOut Epic Compound Bow Review

In a crazy twist of fate this winter, I found myself working as an archery tech at Cabela’s for a brief eight-week stint, an experience I detailed in my blog post “I Accidentally Got a Job at Cabela’s and Lasted a Total of 8 Weeks”.

While my time there was short-lived, it offered me the opportunity to get up close and personal with Cabela’s BlackOut Archery line. I have always been an Elite Archery and a Hoyt kind of gal, so the Blackout series had never been on my radar. I was pretty impressed with the quality of the budget priced line, we sold tons of them while I was there, and the different models provided options for everyone.

I accidentally got a job at Cabela’s…And lasted a total of 8 weeks…🤷‍♀️

As an avid fan and long-time customer of Cabela’s, I’ve always appreciated their support through their affiliate program and enjoyed events like the “Ladies Day Out.” After the Bass Pro takeover, things changed, but I still found myself frequently visiting and spending a lot there.

In the winter, the lack of outdoor activities and increased work obligations had me spiraling mentally and physically. A casual joke from a Cabela’s employee turned into a spontaneous decision to join their archery department. Although I only stayed for eight weeks, the job helped snap me out of my funk. The experience was a reminder of why retail isn’t for me, but it also reignited my passion for archery. Stay tuned for reviews on some of Cabela’s archery gear!

I have always loved Cabela’s and spend a significant amount of time and money there. As a member of their affiliate program, I’ve appreciated their support over the years.

I particularly miss the “Ladies Day Out” events they used to hold. Before my dad passed, we regularly met up for lunch at the Richfield, Wisconsin location.


After Bass Pro took over, the culture changed—not necessarily for better or worse, just different.
