Looking to fish for Muskies or Smallmouth Bass? Residents and visitors of Central Wisconsin all share a secret – you don’t have to drive four, six or eight miles to northern Wisconsin to catch trophy sized fish. Quantity and quality are prevalent in Central Wisconsin, a mere two and a half from Milwaukee, and four hours from Chicago, Steven’s Point a mecca of rich fishing and hunting environments.
I had the pleasure of meeting Abe Downs and Dan Boggs of Blackwater Fly Fishing Guide Service my first night in Steven’s Point.
Like most, when I conjure up fishing trips specifically for Musky I think northern Wisconsin, I quickly changed my way of thinking.
Abe and Dan both shared stories of successful trips their passion for the Wisconsin River was extremely apparent.
Utilizing drift boats and wading techniques they’ve guided countless eager fishermen most of whom are successful. And it doesn’t matter of you’ve never fly fished before, providing full or half day excursions, as well as all gear needed, they are more than happy to take the time to show you how it’s done.
To round out their offerings, the beer enthusiast is sure to take advantage of their unique All Inclusive Bass, Beer and Musky weekend. Partnering with Point Brewery; the oldest and most recognizable beer in the area, the owners of Blackwater Fly Fishing have created a stunning weekend full of guided fly fishing trips by day, gourmet dinners, brewery tours and beer tastings in the evening complete with lodging.
