#HuntFishTravel Coverage from Shot Show 2022

SHOT Show 2022 was held in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Originally, the plan was to go to the Archery Trade Association dealer show in Indianapolis. But when I inquired about bringing a fellow writer or two with me, they wanted to charge me $150 each. Somehow, the thought of paying a bunch of money to work, just didn’t sit well with me. So, I contacted SHOT Show, and they were more than happy to allow an additional writer and photographer along with me. It had been six years since I’d been to SHOT Show. The last time was in conjunction with the Gun Girl Dinner, which was a lot of fun.

For the listeners who aren’t familiar with SHOT Show, SHOT stands for the Shooting, Hunting and Outdoor Trade Show. It’s owned and run by the National Shooting Sports Foundation. It’s a pretty interesting event if you are in the gun industry or even in the outdoor space. Not only that, but it doesn’t even necessarily have to be guns. Because obviously I don’t produce a lot of firearm related content. But when I go, there’s a ton of stuff for me to cover. There’s optics, archery, general outdoor items, there’s training, really quite a bit to experience and cover from a media standpoint.

This year they had more than 2400 exhibitors.

Seriously, wrap your head around that.

It’s mind-boggling, and it’s it can be really quite overwhelming from an attendee standpoint. it covers almost a million square feet and if you walked all the aisles, and you visit all the vendors and all the exhibitors you will walk almost 14 miles total, I mean it’s a lot of exercise to look at some guns!

A few quick stats:

  • 2400 exhibitors.
  • walk almost 14 miles – 12.5 miles in 2020
  • 55,000+ attend this show – 60,000 in 2020
  • 2000 media folks down about 400

This year, over 2,000 media folks got to attend. Everything from magazine journalist, photographers, to bloggers, the podcasters, TV personalities, every kind of media you can possibly think of…there was someone there representing it.

The first thing you see when you walk through the doors is all the law enforcement gear. It had been a couple of years since I’ve attended, and honestly I kind of forgot to skip the law enforcement stuff and go straight to the hunting and outdoor booths. The first half of the day was just wandering around looking at gear that isn’t even applicable to me, still fun to look at, but it was a lot of gear I wasn’t truly interested in.

By the end of the day, you’re already getting tired, your feet hurt, so I felt I wasted some very precious time. And when I say it’s a lot of walking, I can’t even explain to you. I mean, I’m a little fat girl from Wisconsin, so I’m not in the best of shape, but even people who are in great shape, go and soak their feet at night in ice.

It was a really great show. And I’m looking forward to 2023 I still want to go to the Archery Trade Association dealer show because that’s really where my people are. But this is still an amazing show to attend and cover from a media standpoint.

I hope you enjoy these couple of little interviews. I wish I’d been able to interview more people. I wish I had gone an extra two days earlier, because I would have needed those two days to conduct all the interviews I wanted to, but I made some excellent connections. And I’m looking forward to some future content.

Meanwhile, enjoy this photo slideshow of all the fun stuff that we got to see and listen to these three very quick episodes. It’ll take less than 15 minutes of your time.
